Welcome to the website of the Wakefield – La Pêche Chamber! I encourage you to bookmark our site and check back often to stay informed of Chamber offerings, events and other news.
The Chamber was formally launched in May 2015, emerging from and continuing the good work of the former Commerce Wakefield and Wakefield Ensemble. Our members are businesses, non-profit community organizations and individuals. The Chamber’s mandate is to foster a thriving economic, artistic, recreational and social environment for Wakefield and area. Since Wakefield is a hub for the region, we reach out to all of La Pêche and beyond to achieve this mandate. Our business directory lists and connects businesses for all of La Pêche, for example.
We have four “pillars” that represent and support different sectors of the Wakefield and area community:
- the Commerce Council supports and connects business members, and promotes economic development generally;
- the Tourism Council supports tourism-oriented members and promotes tourism development and marketing of the Wakefield area to visitors;
- the Arts Council supports and makes proposals of interest to the arts and culture community;
- the Community Council supports the community as a whole and provides a forum for discussion and achievement of community-driven initiatives.
Wakefield and area is in transition. Development is coming as people discover our beautiful corner of the Gatineau Hills. We want to encourage that development so that we all prosper, but also make sure it is the right kind – development that respects our heritage, our environment and our country village lifestyle. The Chamber gives a voice to all in the community to make sure that happens.
I am honoured to lead a strong board of dedicated community-minded individuals. We look forward to building on the past successes of this incredibly engaged community, as well as to tackling future challenges. 2015-16 was a building year for us and we have put together several active and productive committees, a solid strategic and operations plan and the base for several member networking events and activities. 2016-17 promises to be an exciting year to deliver on several major objectives – stay tuned!
I encourage you to use the Wakefield – La Pêche Chamber as a means of developing relationships, improving our community and participating in a dialogue on the priority issues that affect our business and our way of life. This is not just a place for a few people to do good things – there’s a place in the Chamber for everyone to contribute. I encourage you to commit to making the most of the Wakefield – La Pêche Chamber this year, and if you’re not already a member, please consider joining today. Membership has benefits, permits you to network with your business and other colleagues and allows us to act collectively to achieve good things for Wakefield and area.
